Middle States Self Study Steering Committee
Significant learning points:
From 2012-2013, served as the Owens campus
co-chair and on the collegewide steering committee for the middle states
self-study. I came into the process only
one year before the accreditation visit, so along with my co-chair, Janelle, I
was responsible for helping to edit each chapter of our campus self-study,
organizing and planning for the campus visits, presenting campus updates
regarding the self-study findings, and meeting with each department chair,
dean, and director to review outcome assessment records and evidence of
improvement actions. Janelle and I have also
volunteered to serve as the Owens Campus representative for the 2018 periodic
review report, so that we could see this ten year accreditation cycle through
to completion.
Leadership characteristics enhanced:
#3 – Has excellent interpersonal and
communication skills – Through campus updates, focus groups, and individual
meetings, I had to interact with a diverse group of individuals with varying
levels of understanding of the accreditation process and requirements.
#8 – Is able to see the “Big Picture” – Writing and editing the Owens campus self-study enabled me to better understand the operations of both the campus and the College as a whole.
