Minute-to-Win-It Coordinator
Significant learning points:
From 2011 – 2013, I had
the pleasure of being the coordinator and emcee of Minute-to-Win-It game
days. I learned how much students want
and need to connect with instructors and staff members outside of the
classroom. By interacting with us in
different settings, it helps us to be more approachable in their eyes. One of my favorite games was “Magic Carpet
Ride” where participants had to scoot on an upside-down bathroom rug through an
obstacle course without letting their hands or feet touch anything other than
the carpet. The laughter was
infectious. Having fun and acting silly
helps both staff and students relieve stress, so they can focus better in the
classroom.
Leadership characteristics enhanced:
The leadership characteristics that were
enhanced through this activity were #5 – has excellent management skills and #6
– exhibits a strong sense of team spirit.
I had to research and organize fun games, secure donations for supplies,
solicit participants and student helpers, and coordinate with other College
staff to determine the best times and locations for the events. As the Minute-to-Win-It coordinator, I felt
more connected to the students, and in turn, they knew I genuinely cared about
them.
